Nathalie Robinson, social worker

Nathalie Robinson promotes social justice in her role as a social worker at Youville Home. She uses and seeks out resources within and beyond the site’s walls to serve residents. Nathalie consulted with services to get counselling for a resident who had had a previous brain injury. She had to advocate strongly to get this resident the care they deserved.

It’s Nathalie’s nature to speak up for others. She regularly checks in with residents and family members to really get to know them. She recognizes differences within residents and their life circumstances. Nathalie learns about their stories and asks how she can best serve their needs – mental, spiritual, social and physical.

She regularly consults with other Covenant Health long-term care sites in the zone putting on events for families and residents to learn more about things that may impact them. These events include things like dementia education for families, funeral home planning, legalities of facility living and cognitive impairment.

Nathalie does not shy away from inequities, but embraces the discomfort and leans in. She is always considering on residents’ behalf what can be learned here, how can we create fairness for all.

Nathalie’s constant advocacy for underserved people has an invaluable impact. Coworkers see her as a source of support in challenging situations. Residents and families feel welcomed, heard and reassured knowing Nathalie is part of the care team.
