Justin Newman, maintenance

Brightening everyone’s day just by being his positive self, Justin Newman is someone everyone at the site can turn to for help whether it is maintenance needs, ideas, a laugh or a positive discussion. His team feels Justin’s impact through his attitude, work ethics, completions of work orders and kind, caring way with residents and families.

If there is a resident sitting lonely in the hallway, Justin stops to chat with them. He also engages residents in another way. When Justin is speaking with a resident in a wheelchair, he kneels down to their level. If he is talking to someone with cognitive challenges, he speaks slowly and calmly and waits for their response.

There are residents who smoke onsite that care about their home. Justin cleans the grounds, so he spoke with the smokers’ group and engaged them in picking up their cigarette butts instead of throwing them on the ground. He set up safe ashtrays for them to use in the outside smoking area. One resident came in and told staff how many butts he found on the ground; he is proud to help Justin. Justin gave this resident a sense of pride and meaning in his day which is often lost in a care setting.

Justin smiles and talks to everyone; he is always the first person to lend a hand. When staff call on him for help, he jumps in and helps as best he can.
