Covenant hosts Indigenous health engagement session at Fort McMurray

Fort McMurray 468 First Nation, AB – Covenant is honoured to invite First Nations, Métis and Inuit community members and partners to an upcoming Indigenous health engagement session in Fort McMurray on Monday, November 24, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Nikinan Community Centre.

This session, and others to follow around the province, is designed to foster meaningful dialogue and relationship-building with Indigenous communities and is part of Covenant’s ongoing Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation and health equity.

“We want to provide a safe space for the community to share their unique experiences and perspectives to help inform and build Covenant’s Indigenous health strategy,” says Adam North Peigan, Lead, Indigenous Health Development and Community Engagement. “We are eager to respectfully listen and learn and we are deeply grateful to the Fort McMurray 468 First Nation community for welcoming us. We look forward to walking this path together.”

The sessions will bring together Indigenous Elders, knowledge keepers, leaders and community members to share stories and explore ways to improve culturally safe healthcare and build relationships. All Indigenous community members are encouraged to attend.

Each session will include:

  • Opportunities for open dialogue and storytelling

  • Lunch and door prizes

  • Updates on the development of Covenant’s Indigenous health strategy

Covenant welcomes participation through its online engagement form for community members who are unable to attend in person to ensure every voice is heard.

This work aligns with Covenant’s strategic priority to advance Indigenous health and build relationships with Indigenous communities in rural and urban areas across Alberta. The initiative seeks to make meaningful progress toward reconciliation in health care through practical action, respectful dialogue and community collaboration.
