Federal financing supports 199 new rental homes at Covenant Wellness Community

The Government of Canada announced $51.2 million in financing today to support the construction of Gilbertson Block, a 199-unit rental housing development at the Covenant Wellness Community in southeast Edmonton.
The financing comes through the Apartment Construction Loan Program, a funding stream of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. The announcement was made at the Covenant Wellness Community by Caroline Desrochers, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Housing and Infrastructure.
Gilbertson Block is a six-storey, 199-unit building designed with accessibility and inclusivity at its core – with accessible and universal design units, barrier-free paths of travel, and common area built to welcome residents of all abilities. It is being developed in partnership between Rohit Group and Covenant. Construction is underway, with completion anticipated in late 2027.
The Covenant Wellness Community brings healthcare, housing, community services and other supports together in one location. The integrated, community-based model is designed to better connect people with the care and support they need to live well.

Gilbertson Block is named in honour of the late Ron Gilbertson, a former Covenant board member who was closely connected to the vision and development of the Covenant Wellness Community. Ron's contributions and the significance of the name will be recognized more fully at the building's ribbon cutting.
