Program managers
Ceira Golberg, Akosua Benson, Sherri McArthur
The Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre has undergone a significant amount of change over the last two years. All three program managers maintained an open-door policy for all staff, engaged with the various unions to problem solve and built solution-focused processes and plans. They engaged all affected parties and built working groups to hear the parties’ concerns and work on a path forward. The program managers are always open to hearing questions, comments and concerns from residents and staff related to large scale changes.
Many times, change comes with significant emotion and anxiety for the people affected. The program managers approach concerns with empathy, patience and clear concise messaging. They make themselves available to listen to concerns and work closely with various team members to problem solve and advocate for further resources.
If a proposed approach appears to compromise safety, quality or fairness, the program managers address it with professionalism and clarity. They are not afraid to ask difficult questions with a variety of stakeholders. The program managers advocate for resident safety and quality of life. Even when timelines are tight or the majority of team leans toward a quicker path, they stay grounded in their values.
The program managers ensure they meet commitments even during high demand periods, often going above and beyond to support their teams. They have been a consistent presence on units facing challenges, both clinical and cultural, providing support to managers and teams.
