The staff on Rosewood have a very difficult job.
When a resident developed a wound on his hand, Rosewood staff addressed the wound, kept it clean and provided a protector that he still wears. The staff knows him well and takes the time to listen to any concerning issues allowing them to meet his needs.
Many things the Rosewood team does are not required such as braiding a resident’s hair in a love and caring manner. Going above keeps the residents at the centre of what they do.
The Rosewood team recognizes when residents are hurting and treat them kindly. One residento misses his wife terribly when she is not present. The Rosewood team is expert at diverting his attention and thoughts to lessen his distress. When delivering medications, the team is gentle and considerate. Whether it is eye drops or checking blood sugar’s they are patient and careful. They always use the resident’s name and explain every procedure clearly and simply even though the resident may not understand.
Recognizing residents’ vulnerability, the team redirects residents from harming themselves or others whether it is stopping a wheelchair from colliding with someone or something or redirecting unwanted touching. They complete these tasks with kindness and show dignity to the resident. The team approaches their tasks with kindness. The staff speak respectfully amongst each other, showing dignity and compassion.
