Nishi Happy, recreation assistant
Through her unbiased support and unwavering kindness Nishi Happy fosters trust, comfort and belonging. Her actions show she does not impose her personal beliefs or preferences. She focuses entirely on the resident or family member before her recognizing their unique story and responding with empathy. By creating safe, welcoming environments where residents and families feel seen and respected Nishi reinforces their dignity and autonomy.
While facilitating a pub night program, Nishi learned a resident and family member did not have money to participate. She resolved this issue by contacting the business office and arranging for them to withdraw necessary funds for the resident. After securing the funds, she selected a table and personally escorted them to it bringing them both a sense of belonging and comfort. Nishi acted without hesitation creating an experience honouring the resident.
Nishi supports the physical and emotional needs of residents by creating a sense of belonging and inclusion. She helped a resident prepare a traditional dish acknowledging the importance of cultural expression in promoting well-being and identity. Nishi encouraged the resident to share their heritage through cooking. After preparing the treat, they shared it with residents on the unit fostering a sense of community, connection and mutual respect.
Her thoughtful gestures include baking a resident’s favourite cake from a cherished recipe to organizing an anniversary celebration for a resident and her spouse. This reflects her deep commitment to making each moment meaningful. Nishi often does these acts on her own time.
