Jordon Chan, community peace officer

During high-stress situations, Jordan Chan prioritizes the well-being of everyone involved including subjects, staff and team members. He checks on their safety and maintains this focus throughout his shift. He actively listens to staff concerns and gathers comprehensive information to support effective decision-making. Jordan encourages open communication fostering collaborative problem solving. He is attentive to potential cultural or language barriers and addresses these promptly to ensure equitable and efficient resolutions.

Sometimes people who walk through the doors of the Grey Nuns hospital require more attention and care because they are more vulnerable. Protective Services at times are the last resort to assist these people. Jordan takes the time to listen to everyone as he wants the best outcome for all, even if that outcome is people having to leave the hospital.

Jordan assisted someone in leaving. He knew she was suffering inside and wanted to leave. She was allowed to leave against medical advice. She was unfamiliar with the area, so Jordan stayed with her and talked to her. He made sure she was not alone in the early morning and was escorting her to the taxi / ETS area when she collapsed and went into cardiac arrest. Jordan started CPR and followed her back into the emergency department. He remained with her until the situation concluded.

After an incident, Jordan always checks on people to see how they are doing. He also asks if there is anything he could have done differently or better.
