Dawn Scherer, program assistant

When people arrive at St. Therese Villa, the first person they see is Dawn Scherer. She plays a key role in welcoming new families during preadmission conferences. She often dedicates hours to ensure they feel comfortable, informed and supported as they transition into the site. Her warm, attentive approach helps families feel seen and heard leaving a lasting positive impression with residents and families

Her colleagues often refer to Dawn as their air traffic controller because she ensures everything takes off on time and she prevents them from crashing into each other. Her ability to coordinate multiple moving parts with calm and precision is invaluable. Dawn works with external stakeholders to coordinate essential services like foot care and oral health for residents. She encourages outside providers to share information about their services which she includes in preadmission packages.

Dawn currently manages onsite stock and inventory. She works closely with supervisors to coordinate weekly orders. She ensures the site does not over order and prioritizes using existing resources. If there is an outbreak, she makes sure there is enough personal protective equipment to keep everyone safe.

She goes above and beyond to foster a sense of community. Dawn involves residents in her day-to-day work partnering with them to deliver mail and packages giving them a sense of purpose and pride in contributing.

Dawn has the difficult task of speaking with families about the vacancy protocol when a resident passes away. She approaches these sensitive conversations with compassion and heartful support in their grief.
