Angela Young, administrative assistant
On a daily basis, Angela Young demonstrates her commitment to both residents and staff.
Angela is the idea generator and executor of a broad array of staff recognition events. Most recently she came in on a Saturday on her own time to offer a fun afternoon of Christmas cookie decorating for 23 children of employees. She has driven to drop off items needed for a community event, so a community board member could avoid making a special trip.
She makes it a point to visit all of the units and houses in the site regularly. As Angela does this, she takes note of residents who do not have family or friends visiting. She quietly goes about filling this void. It could be by making time to visit with a resident or maybe a special birthday acknowledgement for a resident in the complex mental health unit. Angela sees the lonely and broken hearted and steps in to fill a gap.
Angela cares about staff too. She seeks out people who are struggling, checks in and lets them know someone cares.
Acting as an advocate for the vulnerable, Angela brings up unspoken needs. On a visit to one of the locked dementia units, she noticed a lack of engagement opportunities for residents and immediately shared her concerns so leadership could change this situation.
All of Angela’s actions make people feel seen and heard. Her thoughtfulness and encouragement of individuals serves as an example to others. Angela’s kindness is contagious.
