Marika Egete, rehabilitation assistant
Marika Egete takes steps to promote personal and team wellness so people feel their work is fulfilling. She is a kind person who thinks of others. She thinks about what staff can do now to help their residents and teams in the future.
She promotes wellness in her team regularly. Marika brings colleagues’ favourite snacks for morning coffee break. She often brings the team accessories to match the season. The team wears the seasonal accessories as they go onto the units, and these items help residents note the passage of time and know that different holidays are coming up.
Marika saves the extra patch kits from new wheelchair cushions so they can be used on old facility owned wheelchair cushions that have been damaged. She is then able to share the used cushions with residents who need them before they can obtain their own.
When the occupational therapist in client day support wanted a mirror box for a specific client and found online instructions from the Glenrose Hospital to make one yourself, Marika used her relationship network to have this built for the client.
In her own recreation assistant practice, Marika carefully cleans and maintains the equipment she uses. Her strong positive relationships with laundry and maintenance staff helps keep things clean and gets equipment reassessed.
