Lanston Kallusky, biomedical equipment technologist
A quiet leader who demonstrates creativity and responsibility, Lanston Kallusky makes important contributions to the Women’s Health team. His work helps reduce waste, increase efficiency and ensure resources — time, equipment and energy — are used wisely.
When the Women’s Health fetal heart rate monitors regularly broke, Lanston worked with the team to find a solution. He suggested mounting them on small carts and repaired the wands that hold the Doppler devices to prevent them from falling and hitting the floor. He understands how the team uses the equipment and identifies practical ways to prevent costly damage.
When a small piece of equipment that came with the Entonox scavenging system was being thrown out accidentally, Lanston reproduced the part using a 3D printer. This solution is quicker and more cost effective than continuing to replace the part with the vendor and supports patient care.
Lanston repairs equipment whenever possible. He keeps older or discontinued devices so parts can be sourced if needed. He also helps staff understand how to handle, operate, store and clean equipment to maintain it in good working condition. In addition, he proactively flags outdated equipment and arranges replacements before it stops working.
