Monique Shepert, urban central staffing office supervisor
Last year, the Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre, St. Joseph’s Auxiliary Hospital and Youville Home centralized staffing to create a central staffing office. Throughout the transition, Monique Shepert played an integral role in ensuring the change was seamless and had minimal impact on operations.
Monique consistently demonstrated her commitment to efficiency. The rotation change across the three sites involved 55 workplans affecting licensed practical nurses and health-care aides. She brought exceptional attention to detail to the process. Following line selection, Monique worked closely with management to confirm 100 per cent accuracy in the new rotations. Identifying and correcting errors reduced risk to resident safety, strengthened staff’s ability to deliver quality care, mitigated costs for Covenant Health and reinforced accountability.
Monique also prioritized team wellbeing. She approached time-off requests fairly and equitably while ensuring adequate staffing levels in the office. She encouraged staff to attend meetings and informal lunchtime gatherings, creating opportunities to step away from their desks and connect. She promoted open communication and fostered a supportive, collaborative environment.
Monique understood that people, finances and reputation are all essential to carrying out the organization’s mission.
